World Meningitis Day 2026
5 October
Since 2009, people worldwide have united on World Meningitis Day to call for a future free from this devastating disease. Today, co-ordinated by Meningitis Research Foundation, it’s now the world’s largest day of action on meningitis.
Meningitis is the swelling of the lining around the brain and spinal cord (the meninges). It can affect anyone, anywhere at any time. Meningitis is largely preventable, but people still die in less than 24 hours. This is why we must act now to defeat it.
Old Treasury Building will be lit purple from sunset to sunrise for this event.
