These whimsical Old Treasury Building cards were designed to echo the Christmas cards of the Victorian Era, 1837-1901.
Thanks to new printing techniques and cheaper postage stamps, Christmas cards were the hot item to send to friends and family.
The competitive nature of the Christmas card business meant companies produced wilder and wilder designs, including exotic animals in strange places.
