Bookplates

$5.00 inc. GST

If you’re always lending books and never getting them back, why not invest in some bookplates!

Once only available to the upper class, a bookplate, or an ex libris (Latin meaning “from the books of”), are decorative labels intended to show ownership of a book. Bookplates date back to Germany in the 15th century, when they were used to prevent theft of valuable manuscripts from monasteries or libraries.

Early bookplates were customised to feature designs representative of their owners. Later, names were printed directly onto the design. With these OTB bookplates, you can write in your name and make sure you never lose a book again.

These designs incorporate elements of the Old Treasury Building design and architectural features.
From original drawings by architect John James Clark, to decorative schemes from designer Alexander Borthwick and linoleum samples found during renovations.

Includes 5 blank 76mm x 100mm bookplates (one of each design)

Designed and printed carbon-neutral in Melbourne, Victoria using a mix of recycled and sustainably sourced paper.

Available exclusively from Old Treasury Building.
